about
From the "Under the Covers" EP. Regina Spektor released this song, Samson, on her first questionable album, Begin to Hope (2006). But there's another, much better version of this song on her self-released Songs, and that's what I was feeling here.
I am seriously so happy to hear birds chirping, train whistles blowing in the distance, and me breathing in a semi-healthy-normal fashion.
lyrics
Samson
You are my sweetest downfall.
I loved you first, I loved you first.
Beneath the sheets
Of paper lies my truth.
And I have to go, I have to go
Your hair was long when we first met.
Samson went back to bed,
Not much hair left on his head.
He ate a slice of wonder bread
And came right back to bed.
And the history books forgot about us
And the bible didn't mention us.
The bible didn't mention us?
Not even once?
And you are my sweetest downfall.
I loved you first, I loved you first
Beneath the stars came falling on our heads
But they're just dulled light,
They're just dulled light.
Your hair was long when we first met.
Samson came to my bed
Told me that my hair was wet,
Told me I was beautiful,
And came into my bed.
Oh, I cut his hair myself one night.
A pair of dulled scissors and
A yellow light.
And he told me that
I'd done alright,
And he kissed me
'Til the morning light, the morning light
And he kissed me 'til
The morning, mourning light.
And you are my sweetest downfall. And
I loved you first.
